If you’ve spent more than 30 seconds with me, you’ll know these three words mean a lot to me: skin, soul, sanity. They’re not a cute marketing slogan, they are what menopause taught me not to ignore… unless you fancy running on empty and wondering why everything feels a bit… beige.
Skin
Midlife skin doesn’t read the memo. One day it’s glowing, the next it’s drier than a Jacob’s cracker and throwing a breakout just for fun. Hormonal changes mean collagen loss, and your skin barrier acting like a paper bag in the rain.
The fix? Keep it simple, consistent, and supportive. Gentle but effective cleansing, hydration, and a no-negotiation SPF. Healthy, comfortable, glowing skin — without giving up the good stuff (cake, carbs, and treats) — is the goal.
Soul
When I say “soul”, I mean the bits of you that light up when you feel connected, rested, and seen. It’s your energy, your joy, your spark, and yes, it takes a hit when life’s loud, your diary’s full, and your nervous system is stuck in fight-or-flight” mode.
The pause isn’t indulgent; it’s essential. Even a few guilt-free minutes with a cup of coffee and no phone can reset your day. Bonus points if you can do it without someone asking what’s for dinner.
Sanity
Midlife comes with enough curveballs to make you question everything – your memory, your patience, your career, even your wardrobe. Add in hormonal shifts, the mental load, and society’s nonsense about “ageing gracefully” (read: invisibly), and you’ve got the perfect recipe for feeling like you’ve lost it.
Sanity isn’t about being Zen 24/7. It’s about finding moments where your shoulders drop, your breathing slows, and you feel a little more human again – even if it’s just while your conditioner’s on.
Why I’m Sharing This
At The Pause Room, I help women in midlife look after their skin, body, and mind in ways that feel doable, not overwhelming. This blog is where I’ll share tips, insights, and the occasional personal story to help you keep your skin, soul, and sanity intact.
If that sounds like your cup of coffee (yes, I know it’s tea, but I don’t like tea and this is my blog 😜), keep an eye out for the Feral Chihuahua mailing list — coming soon — so you can get it straight to your inbox.
Zero spam. Promise.
