I am not a woo woo person. There is nothing wrong with being woo woo, but that is not my reason. I consider myself too practical, too sensible, and sometimes a black-is-white kind of girl. How can that be, Sherry? You’re a Holistic Therapist. Findhorn Foundation was your favourite place. Glastonbury fascinates you. You pull an oracle card every morning. You own crystals bought ‘just because they were pretty’ (not because you felt drawn to them). A couple of months ago, you sat by Skelwith Force in the Lake District with your feet in the water. The peace you felt there was deeper than simple scenery.
I think I have a pretty straight view of myself. Rules are there for a reason (although a previous speed awareness course may say otherwise 🤦🏼♀️), and I’m pretty old school in many ways (yet also open minded 🤷🏼♀️).
Yet I have a firm belief in holistic therapies – and there may be other signs too (which I hadn’t thought much of until a recent post of a colleagues on Instagram):
✨ Thought about a client I hadn’t seen for a little while the other day, and within the hour she booked online. (and this wasn’t a one-off occurrence.)
✨ Finishing a segment of a treatment at the exact time a track finishes. (internal fist bump.)
✨ Saying “thank you” (to no one) when something works out right.
✨ Finding a tense spot on a client and, rather than pushing through, waiting for the body to allow the movement forward – whispering (or thinking) words of encouragement, then smiling to myself when the body releases and saying “thank you.”
✨ Random “phrases” popping into my head when I’m deep in a treatment, like “she’s holding on to so much,” “she’s bone tired,” and “she’s not speaking her truth” – and then asking the questions at the end of the session and seeing the truth. (sometimes there are tears at feeling seen.)
✨ Getting so immersed in the flow of the treatment, brain quiet (a rarity in itself), totally focused, yet feeling disconnected from everything other than the person I’m treating.
And then today. I believe that things happen in 3’s, both good and bad. My partner and I went off to look at something this morning. I saw two positive signs on the way (one being two magpies) and thought yes, things are aligning. Didn’t see a third sign – and what we went to look at wasn’t right.
So yeah, not woo woo at all 🤦🏼♀️
Maybe part of getting older is just realising which old beliefs about yourself you don’t need to hold onto anymore – and that it’s OK to do so.
